Nick Compton's innings of 178 is his highest score of the season |
Nick Compton hit a second Championship century of the season as Middlesex took four batting points at Uxbridge. Compton (178) shared a fifth-wicket partnership of 135 with Gareth Berg (70), as the hosts declared on 353-9. Steffan Jones (4-69) was the pick of the Derbyshire bowlers, while Greg Smith chipped in with two wickets. At the close, Derbyshire were 96-2, leading by 244 runs. Wayne Madsen added to his ton in the first innings with 89 and Chris Rogers was unbeaten on 75. With far less of a first innings lead than they wanted, Derbyshire knew they had to score quickly if they were to have any chance of claiming a victory on the final day. Rogers and Madsen did just that as the pair set a new Derbyshire record for the first wicket against Middlesex with a stand of 181 in 31 overs.
