COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Canterbury: Kent v Leicestershire 15-18 September 2009
Rain was the winner at Canterbury on the first day of already-promoted Kent's County Championship clash with Leicestershire. Kent need just eight points to assure themselves of the Division Two title. But title celebrations had to be put on ice when umpires Peter Hartley and Jeff Evans called off for the day at the St Lawrence Ground in mid-afternoon. Despite four inspections, heavy showers returned soon after the players had started their post-lunch warm-up. Bottom club Leicestershire are keen to get playing as they bid to avoid claiming this season's County championship wooden spoon. And the two teams will try again to get started on Wednesday morning (1030 BST).
