PRO40 DIVISION ONE, Derby: Derbyshire 198-1 beat Leicestershire 194-8 (Derbys 2pts)
Chris Rogers has now hit 259 runs in just four Pro40 innings this summer |
Derbyshire captain Chris Rogers led from the front as he inspired his side to a comfortable nine-wicket Pro40 home win over Leicestershire. Rogers finished on 111 not out as the home side reached 198-1, made in two 99-run partnerships with Wayne Madsen (42) and Greg Smith (38 not out). Earlier, Tim Groenewald had impressed with the ball, taking 3-33 as the Foxes were limited to 194-8. Top scorer for Leicestershire at Derby was James Benning, who made 61. The victory, with 32 balls to spare, moves Derbyshire up to fifth in Division Two in the soon-to-be defunct Pro40. But, coming on the back of consecutive defeats, it was almost certainly too little too late. It would now take a freakish set of results to go their way for them to stand any chance of still taking the Division Two title. Rogers' century was only his third in one-day cricket, taking him past 1,000 one-day runs for Derbyshire in the process. And his first this summer was also his first in England, his previous two one-day tons had both come Down Under. In stark contrast to the rapid Rogers, the Leicestershire batsmen struggled on a slow pitch. And they never really recovered from the loss of two wickets in the first six overs against a disciplined Derbyshire attack missing four front-line bowlers.
