Paul Boertien earned a point for Burton with a late strike to deny Bradford a fifth consecutive league and cup win.
Gareth Evans side-footed into an empty net to put the Bantams in front after a defensive mix-up.
Home keeper Simon Eastwood then saved John McGrath's shot and midfielder Lee Bullock blocked a Greg Pearson shot as City went in 1-0 up at the break.
But Boertien celebrated his 200th league appearance with a left-foot strike into the far corner.
Bradford City boss Stuart McCall told BBC Radio Leeds:
"We didn't play great football, but we worked hard and the commitment was there.
"We are disappointed not to win our home games, especially when we lead 1-0.
"But credit to Burton for fighting back and I think a draw was a fair result all round.
"If we had got the second goal before they levelled it up I think it would have been game over, but that's football sometimes."
Burton manager Paul Peschisolido told BBC Radio Derby:
"It was a disappointing first-half performance, it was not us. We weren't at the races, we didn't get the ball down, we didn't pass it all, we looked a bit nervous and edgy. In the second half we were superb.
"Bradford are a very good side - they've got a lot of energy. I don't think many teams will come here and take points off them.
"Team selections are very difficult but it's a great problem to have."
