COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, New Road: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY TWO: Worcestershire 334, Nottinghamshire 9-1 (Worcs 3pts, Notts 3pts) 25-28 August 2009
Andrew struck 14 fours and one six in his unbeaten 92 |
Gareth Andrew narrowly missed out on a maiden first-class hundred on a rain-hit second day between Worcestershire and Nottinghamshire at New Road. After the home side began the day on 314-7, Mark Ealham (3-40) struck twice and Andre Adams (4-81) once to see Worcestershire bowled out for 334. This left Andrew, who was unbeaten on 77 overnight, stranded on 92 not out. Scott Newman was then caught by Daryl Mitchell off Imran Arif to leave the visitors 9-1 when play was abandoned. Andrew, whose previous highest first-class score was 44, and Richard Jones extended their eighth-wicket stand to 84 before Jones was bowled playing no shot to Ealham. A long rain delay did not help Worcestershire, and on the resumption Arif and Jack Shantry were both dismissed for ducks within seven balls of each other. Arif was bowled by Adams, with Shantry being trapped lbw by Ealham, to leave Andrew high and dry. Newman then edged Arif to Mitchell at second slip to leave Worcestershire as the greater benefactors from a truncated day's play.
