PRO40 DIVISION TWO, Chesterfield: Kent 260-6 beat Derbyshire 259-8 by four wickets (Kent 2 pts)</b>
Chris Rogers has hit 137 runs in just two Pro40 knocks this summer |
Unbeaten Kent kept up their hopes of winning the last Pro40 Division Two title as they beat Derbyshire by four wickets at Chesterfield. Home skipper Chris Rogers top scored with 88 as Derbyshire ran up 259-8. But Kent made light of such a daunting total, winning with 10 balls to spare, young Alex Blake (80) leading the way in only his sixth Sunday League game. Blake's efforts were bolstered by two other Kent half centurions, Darren Stevens (52) and Azhar Mahmood (51). It was a first Pro40 defeat of the season for Derbyshire, who had previously suffered two wash-outs in their first three games. A big crowd at the picturesque Queen's Park ground were treated to some explosive strokeplay. Rogers set the platform for a punishing assault from the lower order, capped by Jon Clare's 34 from 17 balls as 75 came from the home side's final six overs. That left a Kent side missing their top four batsmen with a lot to do. But 20-year-old Blake, whose previous highest score was just 21, set up victory by blasting 80 off 70 balls before Stevens and Mahmood all but completed the job. They both fell to consecutive balls from Dan Redfern's off-spin with just six runs needed, but the damage had already been done.
