Michael Lumb is now just 15 short of 1,000 one-day runs this summer
Michael Lumb maintained his excellent form as his 43-ball half-century helped Hampshire to a nine-wicket Duckworth/Lewis win over Durham at the Riverside.
Lumb followed his 219 in the County Championship last week with an unbeaten 57 out of 87-1 in 11 overs, well ahead of schedule when bad light ended play.
In response to a rain-interrupted 207-5 set by Durham, the target at the start of their innings was 197 in 31 overs.
But the game's third interruption for rain at 12-1 reduced it to 163 off 24.
In the end, bad light had the final word but once Lumb and 18-year-old James Vince had taken 17 off the sixth over, bowled by Ben Harmison, they were always well ahead of the required rate.
After choosing to bat, Durham had reached 145-3 after 28 overs when the rain first arrived, to reduce the contest to 36 overs a side.
On top of half centuries from Shivnarine Chanderpaul (54) and Phil Mustard (50), Kyle Coetzer gave them a big finish as he hit three fours in an over off Chris Tremlett in plundering 29 not out off 18 balls.
After more rain delayed the start of the Hampshire innings, Jimmy Adams then departed to the first ball of the third over, to a skied pull off Mitch Claydon well caught by Ian Blackwell, running round from short fine leg.
But Vince struck the ball very cleanly in his 22 not out, while Lumb reached his 50 with his only six, cleanly struck over extra cover off Will Gidman.
In the Friends Provident Trophy, Pro 40 and Twenty20 combined, the impressively consistent Lumb has now hit 985 limited-over runs this summer, including two centuries and nine fifties in 24 innings.
Hampshire are back in Pro40 action on Tuesday night (25 August, 1640 BST) when they meet Gloucestershire under The Rose Bowl floodlights.
Hampshire skipper Dimitri Mascarenhas told BBC Radio Solent:
"It's a shame we couldn't get the full 80 overs in, but the weather dictated what we had to do"
"The boys went out there and played really well with the bat. "Michael Lumb hit the ball sweet. He's timing the ball so well."
