Jonathan Trott hit an unbeaten 73 and took two wickets to lead Warwickshire to a nine-wicket hammering of Leicestershire in Pro40 Division Two.

After losing the toss at Edgbaston, Leicestershire were reduced to 81-5, thanks mainly to Neil Carter's 3-22.

A sixth-wicket stand of 43 between Chris Thompson (39no) and Tom New (27) helped get the visitors up to 158-8.

But Trott and Carter (63) then shared an opening stand of 114 as the Bears got home on 161-1 in 22.4 overs.

After having their opening two fixtures abandoned, Warwickshire quickly set about making up for lost time when Boyd Rankin bowled Greg Smith and debutant Sreesanth accounted for Josh Cobb.

When Carter removed Matt Boyce, James Taylor and Jacques du Toit, Thompson and New took Leicestershire towards respectability, before Trott's 2-16 helped restrict the visitors at the death.

Trott and Carter then set about the Leicestershire attack, which included BBC Radio Leicester presenter Charlie Dagnall, who was making his return to county cricket after a four-year absence.

Carter smashed nine fours and three sixes in his 34-ball effort before being caught by du Toit off the bowling of Masters, leaving Trott and Jim Troughton to see the Bears to victory.
