Porterfield struck 12 fours and three sixes in his 53-ball 97

William Porterfield hit an unbeaten 97 from 53 balls to lead Gloucestershire to a six-wicket victory over Essex in Pro40 Division One at Cheltenham.

In a game that was reduced to 18 overs per side, the visitors racked up 191-5, thanks mainly to a 43-ball 88 from Ryan ten Doeschate.

Chris Wright then struck twice to reduce Gloucestershire to 39-2.

But Porterfield shared 135 with James Franklin (60) to see the hosts home with three balls to spare on 193-4.
