TWENTY20 CUP MIDS/WEST/WALES DIVISION, Wantage Road: Northants 110-3 beat Worcestershire 109-9 by seven wickets (Northants 2pts, Worcs 0pts)

Northants had two former Worcestershire players to thank for the table-topping victory that earned them a home Twenty20 Cup quarter-final in July. Stephen Peters hit an unbeaten 61 off 52 balls as Northants cruised to a comfortable win with two overs in hand. Worcestershire (109-9) had earlier been undone by another New Road old boy, Andrew Hall, who took 4-19. Northants reached 110-3, Peters and Alex Wakely (29 not out) sharing an unbroken, matchwinning 66-run stand. Northants had help in earning top spot, and that home quarter-final, from Warwickshire - who denied Somerset's hopes in beating them by just one run at Edgbaston.
Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "We knew it was going to turn, Ian Fisher bowled well for us, and we knew it was not going to be a big scoring pitch. "Having said that we may have misread the pitch and maybe 130 to 140 would have been a good score. "The groundstaff have to use old pitches for these games. It was slow, difficult and we didn't form any partnerships. "We picked our strongest team as we hoped to go out in good fashion, as we have played some good Twenty20 cricket, though this was one of our worst performances."
