TWENTY20 CUP NORTH DIVISION, Riverside: Durham v Lancashire - Match abandoned (Durham 1pt, Lancashire 1pt)
Durham hopes of making the last eight of the Twenty20 Cup were marred by rain at the Riverside. Their North Division clash with leaders Lancashire was finally abandoned just after 1930 BST - to leave them on nine points with one game left. But they can get through if they beat Leicestershire, who kept their nerve to beat Yorkshire, in Sunday's winner-takes-all clash at Grace Road. Lancashire, already through as North Division winners, rested Glen Chapple. The Lancashire skipper, 35, may miss Sunday's now meaningless final group game against Nottinghamshire as he is kept fresh for the start of Tuesday's County Championship game at Trent Bridge. With Andrew Flintoff having joined James Anderson back on England duty, and Saj Mahmood now away with the England Lions, Lancashire's attack will be down to the bare bones at Trent Bridge. With Mark Chilton due to captain the side, Kyle Hogg was due to play instead of Chapple, while Oliver Newby was down to replace Flintoff and Mal Loye would have come in for for Francois Du Plessis, who has an Achilles problem.
BBC Newcastle's Martin Emmerson's verdict on the Riverside wash-out: "After doing so well to battle their way back into the reckoning in this season's Twenty20 Cup, the weather looked to have ended Durham's hopes of qualification. "But it is still in their own hands if they can beat Leicestershire at Grace Road on Sunday. "This was the first in the entire campaign affected by the weather and to lose the entire match was a huge disappointment. "Especially when you consider the 6,200 tickets sold in advance of this match, which was a record for a Durham Twenty20 game."
