COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, The Rose Bowl Nottinghamshire 326 & 380-6 dec beat Hampshire 295 and 220 by 191 runs (Notts 20pts, Hants 5pts)
Pattinson has played in just one Test against South Africa in 2008 |
England outcast Darren Pattinson took 4-53 to secure Nottinghamshire victory over Hampshire by 191 runs and send them top of the County Championship. Hampshire began day four at the Rose Bowl on 9-1, needing 403 more to win. But they lost wickets regularly as only James Vince (75) and Nic Pothas (63no) offered any resistance. Seamer Pattinson finished the job by removing David Griffiths and Imran Tahir in successive balls as Hampshire were bowled out for 220. It secured Nottinghamshire's third victory of the season and saw them go 10 points clear of Durham at the top of the table. Nottinghamshire started the day as favourites to seal victory and their hopes were boosted early on as Pattinson, dropped by England after only one Test last summer, had nightwatchman James Tomlinson caught by Bilal Shafayat and Charlie Shreck trapped Michael Carberry leg before in successive overs to leave Hampshire 14-3. | 606: DEBATE |
Michael Lumb and 18-year-old Vince steadied the ship with a stand of 82, only for Lumb to lose his wicket in freakish circumstances. In attempting to guide a Samit Patel delivery away, Lumb chopped down onto his boot and saw the ball balloon back to the bowler for a return catch. Luke Fletcher had Chris Benham caught behind soon after lunch and then saw Vince top edge to Adam Voges for a career-best score in his fledgling career. The game was up for Hampshire when Voges had Sean Ervine caught by Will Jefferson for 21. Dominic Cork, Griffiths and Tahir all followed in double-quick time, leaving Pothas stranded at the non-striker's end.
