Dernbach puts Surrey in control

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Grace Road:
Leicestershire v Surrey

16 - 19 June 2009 (Play begins 1100 BST)
CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY ONE: Leicestershire 165 Surrey 121-1 (Surrey 3pts, Leics 0pts)

Jade Dernbach
Dernbach's previous best first-class figures were 6-72

Jade Dernbach took career best first-class figures of 6-47 as Leicestershire were dismissed for just 165 on day one after choosing to bat at Grace Road.

The South African paceman removed both openers cheaply and then returned to mop up the tail after Chris Jordan (3-54) took out the middle order.

Only Tom New, who was last out for 44, and Boeta Dippenaar (39) offered any real resistance.

Surrey assumed a position of complete control by the close on 121-1.

Scott Newman was the man out for 40 before Michael Brown (46no) and Mark Ramprakash (29no) shared an unbroken second-wicket stand of 63.

And if Leciestershire's problems were not bad enough, off-spinner Jigar Naik was taken to hospital with a broken left arm after being stuck by a rising delivery from Jordan.

Naik, who is expected to be out for six weeks, had only been called into the side as a last-minute replacement for Wayne White, who twisted his ankle in the warm up.
