FRIENDS PROVIDENT TROPHY, GROUP B, The Grange Somerset 220-8 beat Scotland 183 by 37 runs (Somerset 2pts, Scotland 0pts)
South African Thomas picked up 4-22 from eight overs |
Alfonso Thomas ran through the Scotland lower order to help Somerset to a 37-run Friends Provident Trophy victory at The Grange. Having been asked to bat, Somerset totalled 220-8 in their 50 overs thanks to contributions from Arul Suppiah (48) and Carl Kieswetter (42). Another Edinburgh upset looked on the cards when the home side reached 128-4. But the Scots, fresh from beating Kent, lost their last six wickets for 53 runs, with Thomas picking up 4-22. The win ensures that Somerset go through to the quarter-finals unbeaten and are guaranteed a home tie having finished top of Group B. Scotland finish bottom of the group, having recorded just one win from their eight games - Monday's triumph against Kent.
