FRIENDS PROVIDENT TROPHY, GROUP A, Grace Road Match Abandoned. Worcestershire 67-1 (Leices 1pt, Worcs 1 pt)
Worcestershire edged a point closer to qualification for the Friends Provident Trophy quarter-finals after their game with Leicestershire was abandoned. After a rain-hit morning at Grace Road, play finally got underway after lunch. But only eight overs were bowled before another shower ended the contest, both sides picking up a point each. With one eye on a potential Duckworth/Lewis result, Worcester smashed 67-1 in that time, Vikram Solanki hitting a six and six fours in his 43no off 28 balls. Play was finally called off for the day just before five o'clock - an hour before the scheduled close. With one point each from the game, that now leaves Leicestershire with no chance of qualifying and Worcestershire facing a three-way fight for the two qualifying places. But their final game looks straightforward enough against Ireland at New Road on Wednesday. And, if they win that, with their two rivals Hampshire and Nottinghamshire meeting head on the same day at Trent Bridge, Steve Rhodes' men would be through.
