Rob White hit an unbeaten half century as Northants beat Essex by eight wickets to secure their first win of the season in Division Two. White and fellow opener Niall O'Brien, who resumed on 16-0, quickly set about chasing the 176 they needed to win. White hit an aggressive 76, including nine fours and a match-winning six, while O'Brien added a more cautious 29. Riki Wessels added 24 before he was out but White, partnered by skipper Nicky Boje, saw his side home in style.
