Notts held up by Manchester rain

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Old Trafford
Lancashire v Nottinghamshire
29 April - 2 May (Play starts 1100 BST)

CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY THREE: Lancashire 189 and 1-0, Nottinghamshire 367-9 dec (Notts 7 pts, Lancs 3 pts)

Nottinghamshire were left frustrated by the Manchester weather as they got held up in their push for a Championship win over Lancashire at Old Trafford.

A total of 67 overs were lost on day three, during which the visitors made it to a declaration on 367-9 in reply to Lancashire's 189.

But bad light then restricted the home side to facing just one over of their second innings.

And, having closed at 1-0, Lancashire need 176 to avoid a innings defeat.

With a much better Saturday forecast, they may have to bat all day to save the game.

Lancashire had managed to keep their fellow week-one winners in range with the ball on day two.

But Chris Read (63), Paul Franks (51) and Andre Adams (33 at less than a run a ball) helped to add 104 morning runs inside 30 overs before the rain came.

Notts confirmed their fourth batting bonus point (and Lancashire a third bowling point) just within the 120-over cut off mark.

Oliver Newby was the pick of the Lancashire bowlers with 3-98 from 29 overs.
