Nottinghamshire inflicted a second comprehensive Championship defeat of the season on Worcestershire, winning by an innings and five runs.

After resuming on 24-3, still needing 127 to make Notts bat again, Worcester were dismissed before tea for 146.

Only captain Vikram Solanki offered any real resistance, hitting his second half century of the game before falling to England spinner Graeme Swann for 64.

Swann also claimed the final wicket of Imran Arif to wrap up the win.

Worcestershire's hopes of avoiding a heavy defeat were effectively ended in the morning session as four wickets fell, two to England all-rounder Stuart Broad, who took seven in the match.

Andre Adams, who had the visitors reeling with two wickets in three balls on Thursday evening, also claimed the key wicket of Ben Smith after previously having him dropped by both Adam Voges and Ali Brown in the same over.

Solanki defended stoutly but began to open his shoulders following the dismissal of Ashley Noffke in the hope of preventing an innings defeat.

He enjoyed some success with the tactic, slog-sweeping Swann for six over square leg.

But it also proved his downfall when, on 64, he drove Swann straight at Broad at mid-off, before Arif holed out to deep midwicket in the spinner's following over.

Worcestershire's director of cricket Steve Rhodes told BBC Hereford & Worcester:

"We read the wicket exactly right as we knew it would be slow and we knew it would get lower as the match went on.

"So it would be more difficult for batting and so the toss was crucial.

"Having said that, we did pretty well in that initial session, but dropping three chances hurts and those are the sort of things we have to put right."
