COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Old Trafford, day three (close): Lancashire 231 v Yorkshire 234-2
A positive batting display left Yorkshire three runs ahead at 234-2 after three days at Old Trafford. Spinner Adil Rashid claimed the final two Lancashire wickets within four balls to finish with 5-95 as the hosts added 27 and were all out for 231. Dominic Cork, who is being released by Lancashire at the end of the season, struck with his fifth ball but Andrew Gale and Anthony McGrath shared 215. McGrath was lbw on 99 but the watchful Gale hit his third ton of the season. Rashid, who may be a key factor if the Tykes are able to set Lancas a final day target, removed Croft, who top-scored with 68 before holing out to long-off. Sajid Mahmood failed to trouble the scorers before he was caught at point. The exuberant Cork, who trapped Chris Taylor with the 11th ball of the Yorkshire reply, made his feelings known by gesturing towards the committee room. There was little else for him to celebrate, however, McGrath with six fours and a straight six off Gary Keedy, and Gale unbeaten on 111.
