COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP Division Two, New Road, day four (close): Worcesters're 450-8 dec & 296-3 dec drew with Derbyshire 343 & 34-0 Points: Worcestershire 12, Derbyshire 9
Worcestershire were denied a chance to go for a fourth consecutive win when rain washed out the last day of their Division Two match with Derbyshire. The leaders had to be satisfied with 12 points after the abandonment at 1320. Even without leading wicket-taker Kabir Ali because of a minor back injury, the hosts dominated the first three days to set Derbyshire 404 in 112 overs. Chris Rogers and Paul Borrington were due to resume on 34-0 when the rain set in nearly two hours before the start. Tightness in his hamstring meant that Simon Jones was unable to bowl in the 16-over session before the close on Friday. The fast bowler is not in the squad to meet Lancashire in the NatWest Pro40 League but his absence at Old Trafford on Sunday is in accordance with the county's selection policy. His only limited-overs cricket since May was in the Twenty20 Cup, but he is in the England Lions squad.
