Graeme Hick struck his 136th first class hundred as Division Two leaders Worcestershire piled on the runs on day one against Derbyshire at New Road.

The 42-year-old hit 149 before the hosts declared on 450-8 off 82.2 overs in search of maximum points to maintain their push for promotion.

Vikram Solanki (54), Ben Smith (76) and Stephen Davies (71) all made valuable contributions as the visitors toiled.

Paul Borrington and Chris Rogers saw Derbyshire to 27-0 at stumps.

Hick's knock was his highest first-class score for two years, containing two sixes and 18 fours from 151 balls in three hours.

Solanki's innings also saw him become first batsman in the country to score 1,000 championship runs this season, courtesy of a four through mid-wicket off Charl Langeveldt.
