Rain frustrates Glamorgan attack

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP Division Two, Colwyn Bay, day two (close):
Glamorgan 262 v Middlesex 58-2
Coverage: BBC website and local radio

Adam Shantry and Richard Grant picked up a wicket each to give Glamorgan a slight edge after a rain-shortened second day against Middlesex.

Only 26.4 overs of play were possible at Colwyn Bay, with the visitors 58-2 at stumps in reply to Glamorgan's first innings total of 262.

Ed Joyce was caught at cover off Shantry and medium-pacer Grant then bowled Owais Shah with a yorker.

Earlier, Jamie Dalrymple was last man out for Glamorgan for 106.

The former Middlesex all-rounder only managed to add three runs to his overnight score before falling leg-before wicket to Alan Richardson in the fourth over of play.

Glamorgan returned to the field with an attack featuring only two specialist seam bowlers and three spinners.

But left-armer Shantry struck with the new ball when he tempted Ed Joyce into an expansive stroke and Dalrymple took a sharp catch to send the Middlesex skipper on his way for 10.

Shah followed for 12 in the final over before lunch, but that was Glamorgan's final success of the day as the weather closed in and umpires Ian Gould and Martin Bodenham called a halt at 5.00pm following two inspections.
