Nic Pothas scored his first County Championship century of the season as the match between Kent and Hampshire petered out to a draw.

The prospect of a result was all but ended after rain had caused the loss of just over three hours' play during the final day at Canterbury.

Hampshire had resumed on 185-6 and Pothas moved to 105no, while Chris Tremlett made a bright 56.

Hampshire reached 311-7 before the side decided to call an end to the match.

The draw spoilt Kent's chance of overtaking Durham and Somerset, who also drew, and closing the gap on Division One leaders Nottinghamshire.
