County Championship D2, Grace Road, (day four): Worcestershire 672-7 beat Gloucestershire 283 & 247 by an innings and 142 runs Worcs 22 pts, Gloucs 4 pts
Worcestershire wrapped up a convincing win over Gloucestershire to stay top of County Championship Division Two. The hosts were 128-4 in their second innings at the start of the day and needed 389 just to draw level. The task proved too much as paceman Simon Jones continued to show he is regianing his form with three wickets in figures of 4-89. Kabir Ali got the key wicket of Marcus North for 78 as bottom of the table Gloucestershire were dismissed for 247. North had added just eight to his overnight score when he attempted to leave a delivery from Ali and lost his off stump in the fourth over of the day. David Brown, Chris Taylor and Vikram Banerjee each provided stubborn defiance but the Worcestershire attack eventually broke their resistance. Brown had marked his first Championship appearance of the season with a half-century as he made 53 before being out lbw to Jones. Jones, who has taken his tally to 37 wickets for the season, and Imran Arif dismissed the last four wickets in 18 deliveries to secure victory.
