An unbeaten last-wicket stand of 87 helped Yorkshire to maximum batting points on day three of their Division One match against Surrey at Headingley.

Adil Rashid (67) and Deon Kruis (50) frustrated Surrey's bowlers, ending the day on 414-9 with a 210-run lead.

Resuming on 80-0, Yorkshire looked to accelerate after rain washed out most of day two, with Jacques Rudolph (64) leading the way.

Pedro Collins (3-74) was the pick of Surrey's bowlers.

In contrast to Rashid's patient innings, crafted off 148 balls, Kruis' maiden half-century came off just 43 balls, including six boundaries and a six off Saqlain Mushtaq over mid-wicket.

Yorkshire groundsman Andy Fogarty had started work at 0515 BST in an effort to dry out the waterlogged field following an overnight thunderstorm.

Opener Andrew Gale had given Yorkshire a solid start with 63, while Adam Lyth (36) and Gerard Brophy (23) failed to convert their starts.

Rudolph's promising innings was brought to an end when he was run out by a direct hit from Stewart Walters from point.

But Surrey's hopes of dismissing Yorkshire were thwarted as Rashid continued to edge Yorkshire further ahead, ably assisted by Kruis.
