Rain thwarts Yorkshire progress

County Championship D1, Headingley (day two, stumps): Yorkshire 80-0 v Surrey 204

Yorkshire openers Andrew Gale and Chris Taylor added 30 runs to take their side to 80-0 before rain wiped out the remainder of day two at Headingley.

Gale, starting on 38, soon moved on his half-century as he reached 52 not out, while Taylor moved up to 23 not out.

But bad light was quickly followed by prolonged heavy rain that soon flooded the outfield at Headingley.

Umpires Jeremy Lloyds and Richard Illingworth reviewed the situation and called off play at 1340 BST.
