Sussex build lead over Somerset

County Championship D1, Horsham (day three, stumps):
Sussex 419 & 264-5 v Somerset 348

Sussex took control on day three of their County Championship Division One match against Somerset at Horsham.

The home side ended the day on 264-5, a 335-run lead courtesy of Matt Prior (73), who passed 50 for the eighth time in 15 innings, and Michael Yardy (68).

Prior added 94 in an entertaining fifth-wicket stand with skipper Chris Adams, who remains unbeaten on 43.

Resuming the day on 253-4, Somerset were dismissed for 348, with James Hildreth adding a composed 61.

Their sizeable lead gives Sussex the ideal platform to chase a hat-trick of championship wins at Horsham this season.

And yet again England discard Prior was the man in form with an authoritative innings - which included 13 boundaries - off 76 balls.

He lost his wicket 10 overs before stumps when he top-edged a pull off Steffan Jones into the hands of wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter.

Yardy's promising innings was brought to a premature end in the worst possible fashion.

Luke Wright's straight drive deflected off Peter Trego's hand into the stumps at the non-striker's end, where Yardy was out of his ground backing up.
