Marcus Trescothick hit 92 as Somerset made inroads into Sussex's first innings of 419 at Horsham.

The former England opener was supported by Zander de Bruyn who made 77 as Somerset finished day two on 253-4, still 169 runs behind Sussex.

Earlier, Steffan Jones and Peter Trego made short work of the Sussex tail as the home side, resuming on 382-6, added 37 runs for the final four wickets.

Trego, who took 3-46, was out just before the close for 32.
