County Championship D2, New Road, day four (close): Worcestershire 146 & 245-6 drew with Northants 287 Worcs seven points, Northants nine points Scorecard
Vikram Solanki hit his second ton in successive matches to help Worcestershire to a draw against Northants at New Road. Northants were dismissed for 287 after resuming on 264-7, with Simon Jones taking 3-8 in 16 balls. That left the hosts still trailing by 141 going into the second innings but any threat of a loss was ended by skipper Solanki's 114. He went just before tea but had done enough to secure a share of the spoils. The 32-year-old's efforts helped his side to 245-6 at close in a match in which 182 overs were lost to frequent showers during the first three days. But Worcestershire's second innings did not start in promising fashion as Stephen Moore went in the first over when caught behind at third slip by Rob White off Johannes van der Wath. Daryl Mitchell and Solanki then settled the batting side down with a 95-run partnership in 26 overs. Solanki was the rock the Worcestershire innings was built around and he finally fell when caught by White off Nicky Boje. Jason Brown grabbed his 400th first-class wicket with the dismissal of Graeme Hick but Northants had to be content with a draw, although they are now unbeaten in the last six championship matches.
