Yorkshire secure last-eight place

Twenty20 Cup, Trent Bridge:
Yorkshire 137-1 beat Nottinghamshire 136-8 by nine wickets

Match scorecard

Adil Rashid and Gerard Brophy starred as Yorkshire grabbed a Twenty20 Cup quarter-final at Durham at the expense of opponents Nottinghamshire.

The match began as a straight knockout, with Notts batting first.

Adam Voges (39) and Samit Patel (18) put on 44 for the third wicket, before Rashid (4-24), turning the ball sharply, cut through the middle order.

Chasing 137 to win, Yorkshire lost just one wicket and won with 12 balls to spare, Brophy unbeaten on 57.

He put on county tournament record first-wicket partnership of 99 with Andrew Gale (45) before Anthony McGrath finished the game with 12 balls to spare.

Brophy's innings equalled his career-best in the competition and contained six fours while Gale hit a six and three fours.

The Outlaws began their innings confidently after winning the toss but openers Matt Wood and Will Jefferson were both unable to make worthwhile contributions after early boundaries.

Voges received an unlikely reprieve on 12 when he appeared to have been run out by a Rashid direct hit.

But third umpire Pasty Harris,a former Notts player, adjudged that bowler Azeem Rafiq, making his debut at the age of 17, had knocked the bails off with his hand while trying to collect the ball.

The decision was harsh but ultimately did not matter but Notts had an umpiring decision go against them when the dangerous Chris Cairns was given out lbw off Rashid when he had seemed to have hit the ball first.

Two of Rashid's victims - Voges and Mark Ealham - were sweetly stumped by Brophy, as the Notts innings ran out of steam.

By contrast, Yorkshire's batsmen found life much easier, with only Darren Pattinson (0-16 in three overs) able to control the scoring.
