Twenty20 Cup, The Oval Surrey 142-5 (18.0 overs) bt Sussex 141-5 (20 overs) by five wickets Match scorecard
Surrey picked up their first Twenty20 win of the season as they defeated Sussex by five Wickets at the Oval. New signing Abdul Razzaq came to the crease with the home side still needing 53 runs to win, but a crucial 39 off 20 balls helped steer them to victory. His knock included 28 in the 17th over as he smashed Robin Martin-Jenkins for four fours and two sixes. Earlier, Chris Nash hit a superb half-century but Sussex's eventual total of 141-5 was not enough. The result leaves Sussex still searching for their first Twenty20 win this season, but they started well enough with openers Matt Prior and Nash putting on 62 for the first wicket. Prior soon fell for 13 and the next four wickets went for just an additional 38 runs, Nash eventually succumbing to the bowling of Matthew Spriegel. Chris Adams and Michael Yardy did manage a 41-run sixth-wicket partnership at the end with the pair finishing unbeaten on 29 and 15 respectively. Surrey began brightly with Scott Newman rapidly moving to 21 before hitting a lofted drive to Nash at mid-off, this after James Benning had been dismissed for seven. Mark Ramprakash then ran himself out for 16 and despite the loss of Alistair Brown and Jonathan Batty, Razzaq and Usman Afzaal (16) saw the hosts home.
