Carberry sees Hants past Sussex

Twenty20 Cup, Hove
Hampshire 205-4 (20 overs) bt Sussex 204-6 (20 overs) by 6 wickets

Michael Carberry smashed 58 off just 29 balls as Hampshire beat local rivals Sussex by six wickets in a high-scoring thriller at Hove.

Nic Pothas hit the winning run off the last ball after Sussex had made an excellent total of 204-6, their second-highest score in the competition.

Sussex's total was built on Dwayne Smith's magical 72 from 27 balls and Murray Goodwin's excellent 69.

But Carberry, Sean Ervine and Michael Lumb replied in kind for Hampshire.

The match could have gone the other way in a dramatic climax, but James Kirtley's attempt to run Pothas out missed the target.

Ervine - who batted with a runner because of a hamstring injury - proved key to his side's win as his 38 not out off only 20 balls kept Hampshire in line with the demanding run-rate.

The Zimbabwean shared in an unbroken stand of 46 for the fifth wicket with Pothas.
