Morkel masterminds Durham victory

Twenty20 Cup, Grace Road
Leicestershire 142-8 (20 overs) lost to Durham 147-4 (18 overs) by 6 wickets

Albie Morkel grabbed four wickets and added the final runs to steer Durham to an easy win over Leicestershire with two overs to spare in the Twenty20 Cup.

Durham had the home side in trouble on 33 for six with only Boeta Dippenaar offering any real resistance, adding 47 as the Foxes reached a total of 142-8.

The visitors made light work of the run chase with Will Smith adding a breezy 42 and Dale Benkenstein unbeaten on 48.

Morkel sealed the win with a flourish, hitting a six in the 18th over.

The win was the Dynamos' second of the week and kept them on course for a place in the Twenty20 quarter-finals.

But it was Leicestershire's second defeat in successive home games and the former Twenty20 specialists saw their hopes of advancing fade.

Shaun Pollock put the Foxes under pressure in the third over when he bowled HD Ackerman for six.

Two more quick wickets by Morkel had the home side reeling and the South African captured Leicestershire's top-scorer Dippenaar and Dillon du Preez to see him finish with figures of 4-30.

Durham started slowly, slumping to 7-2 inside two overs but Phil Mustard (32) and Smith pulled them out of trouble.

Morkel thumped Jeremy Snape for six off the last ball of the 18th over to seal the win.
