Paul Collingwood put his international worries behind him by taking 5-14 to help Durham open their Twenty20 campaign with victory over Derbyshire.

The England one-day captain took his last three wickets after a 20-minute rain break as Derbyshire slipped from 108-5 to 114-9 in their 20 overs.

Durham's target was reduced to 48 from seven overs in fading light.

Nayan Doshi nearly denied them by taking a hat-trick but in near darkness Shaun Pollock hit the winning runs.

606: DEBATE
Doshi struck after Durham had got their target down to seven runs from two overs by dismissing Albie Morkel along with Will Smith and Phil Mustard, who had hit 17 off the fourth over of their innings from Graham Wagg to revive their side's hopes.

Six were needed from the last over and after Jon Clare bowled a no-ball, Pollock turned Clare behind square for three with one ball remaining as darkness closed in rapidly.

Collingwood, who has struggled with the bat recently, hit his first ball for four but was lbw for seven and Durham looked down and out after only scoring 14 from three overs before Smith and Mustard started the fightback.

Derbyshire had got off to a whirlwind start by racing to 47-0 from their first six overs, despite Pollock taking 1-11 from four overs.

Greg Smith top-scored with 47 from 28 balls and Wavell Hinds hit four fours in his 23 but apart from Wagg and Birch, no-one else reached double figures.
