Peters century revives Northants

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Wantage Road
Northants 329 v Gloucestershire 475 & 115-4 (Day three, stumps)

A century from Stephen Peters helped Northants fight back on day three of their match against Gloucestershire.

Resuming on 135-3, the opener hit 122 of Northants' first innings total of 329, while Andrew Hall (39) and David Lucas (35) made useful contributions.

Captain Jon Lewis (4-65) was the pick of the Gloucestershire bowlers on a fine day in Northampton.

The visitors ended the day at 115-4 in their second innings, 261 runs ahead, with Hamish Marshall unbeaten on 43.

Gloucestershire began their innings slowly and had a scare with the score on six when Craig Spearman chipped Lucas to Rob White, only for umpire Vanburn Holder to signal a no-ball.

Spearman's reprieve was short-lived as he edged Lucas to Hall at first slip two overs later.

Marshall and Alex Gidman responded for the visitors before Nicky Boje had Alex Gidman caught by wicket-keeper Niall O'Brien for 21.

New batsman Chris Taylor played some fine strokes as he and Marshall dug in to see Gloucestershire finish the day without the loss of any more wickets.
