Yorkshire turn screw on Somerset

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Taunton
Somerset 220-9 v Yorkshire 372 (Day two, stumps)

Yorkshire took control on day two as they reduced Somerset to 220-9, three runs short of the follow-on target.

Somerset had looked in reasonable shape after Marcus Trescothick's half-century led them to 98-2, but they collapsed to 143-7 on a sunny day made for batting.

The dismissal of Justin Langer for 4, edging Tim Bresnan behind after being unsettled by two consecutive short deliveries, summed up their innings.

Yorkshire earlier posted 372, losing their last four wickets for 33 runs.

They had resumed 339-6 but Charl Willoughby swiftly polished off the tail to finish with 4-65.

And it was destined to be a day of tumbling wickets at Taunton as Bresnan and Steven Patterson claimed three apiece.

The latter forced Trescothick to miscue to Adil Rashid at cover, signalling the start of Somerset's collapse.

Zander de Bruyn, with a loose drive, and Ian Blackwell, charging down the wicket, were both architects of their own dismissals with rash shots.

A more patient approach by Craig Kieswetter (53 not out) and Alfonso Thomas paid dividends as they clawed the home side back into the game with a 58 stand.
