COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO Gloucester (day two, stumps): Gloucestershire 420 v Warwickshire 151-4
Ian Westwood and Jim Troughton led Warwickshire out of trouble on day two of their match against Gloucestershire. Replying to the home side's 420, Warwickshire slumped to 32-3 before Westwood and Troughton put on 100 in a partnership that took up 44 overs. Westwood, captain in place of the injured Darren Maddy, was run out for 68 but Troughton was unbeaten on 55 as the visitors reached 151-4 at stumps. Earlier, Chris Taylor completed his century but four wickets fell for 86. Jon Lewis and Matthew Gitsham ensured their side secured maximum batting points as the last two wickets added 30 runs. The Gloucestershire bowlers began their reponse strongly with Lewis and Anthony Ireland claiming three wickets in the first 10 overs. Lewis made the breakthrough with the last ball of his third over getting Navdeep Poonia lbw and then struck with the first delivery of his next over when he knocked back Michael Powell's off-stump. Jonathan Trott denied Lewis a hat-trick, but the Warwickshire batsman made only seven when he edged the ball from Ireland to Marcus North at second slip. Westwood and Troughton rebuilt the innings with a solid but unspectacular partnership but Warwickshire still need a further 120 to avoid the follow-on.
