Paceman Charlie Shreck produced a devastating burst

Aggressive bowling from giant paceman Charlie Shreck left Nottinghamshire on the brink of a three-day victory over Lancashire at Trent Bridge.

Shreck consistently tested the visiting batsmen with a mix of feisty bouncers and full-pitched swinging deliveries on day two, finishing with 5-40.

Lancashire were bowled out in their second innings for 233, just 144 ahead.

Notts then lost Will Jefferson in the final nine overs of play to close on 33-1, requiring 112 more to win.

After 20 wickets tumbled on the opening day, pitch liaison officer Tony Pigott confirmed there were no concerns over the state of the Trent Bridge surface.

Conditions looked good enough when Paul Horton was putting on 70 for the first wicket with night-watchman Gary Keedy.

And Keedy survived for two hours before finally being removed by Paul Franks three overs before lunch.

But when Horton was next our for 37 - the best individual score by a Lancashire player - Shreck made major in-roads and the visitors descended into deep trouble.

Chris Read enjoyed a successful day behind the stumps, the wicket-keeper taking six catches.
