Pattinson stars as wickets tumble

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE
Trent Bridge (day one, stumps): Lancashire 113 & 4-0 v Notts 202

Nottinghamshire's Darren Pattinson took career-best figures as 20 wickets fell on a lively first day at Trent Bridge.

After choosing to bat Lancashire were skittled out for 113, with only Stuart Law and Steven Croft reaching double figures, and Pattinson taking 6-30.

Mark Wagh made 55 and Samit Patel 74 off 71 balls as Notts made 202 in reply, with medium-pacer Croft claiming four wickets.

At the close Lancashire were 4-0 in their second innings, still 85 behind.

Pattinson took just over 14 overs for his six wickets, in only his second first-class game for the county.

Charlie Shreck drew first blood with the wicket of Paul Horton in the third over before Pattinson removed Mal Loye and Francois du Plessis in the next.

And when he claimed the wicket of Mark Chilton, Lancashire were rocking on 16-4 before Law racked up 12 fours in the 20 overs up to lunch.

But his dismissal just after the restart saw the last six Lancashire men depart for just 12 runs inside seven overs, Pattinson and Mark Ealham (3-23) sharing the spoils.

Dominic Cork had Notts opener Matt Wood caught down the leg-side by Luke Sutton before Will Jefferson became the first of Croft's four victims, all by lbw.

Adam Voges contributed just seven before Patel and Wagh's fourth wicket partnership of 93.

Wagh reached 50 with three successive fours off Cork before being bowled by an off-cutter.

Gary Keedy removed Chris Read, Patel and Pattinson, while Croft picked off Ealham, Graeme Swann and last man Paul Franks.

Night-watchman Keedy survived one over from Pattinson before the close, with pitch inspectors called for the start of the second day.
