Centurion Trott outperforms Bell

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO
Derby, day two of four (close): Derbyshire 270 & 3-0 v Warwickshire 310

Ian Bell again failed to make the most of a good start for Warwickshire on the second day of their closely fought Division Two contest at Derby.

Bell fell in the forties for the third time this season as Warwickshire, on the back of Jonathan Trott's 104, replied to the hosts' 270 with 310.

There was a minor scare for England wicket-keeper Tim Ambrose.

He ricked his neck warming up before the start of play, but did come out to bat at eight for Warwickshire.

Ambrose came in two spots below his usual position for his county, and was able to see Trott to his hundred.

But a burst of four wickets for eight runs in 21 balls from seamer Tom Lungley restricted the visitors to a lead of 40.

Ambrose was left stranded on 34 and although he did not appear to be restricted, he did not keep wicket when Derbyshire survived two overs to close on 3-0.

When Bell was at the crease, the England batsman appeared to be setting himself for a big score when he played watchfully to score 48 off 91 balls.

It was a surprise when he was caught behind down the leg side trying to turn Charl Langeveldt off his hip.

His consolation was becoming the youngest home-grown Warwickshire player to score 5,000 runs for the county.
