There was no play at Old Trafford on Friday as the famous Manchester ground was hit by rain for the umpteenth time.

Steady rain ruled out the possibility of any action before lunch, but umpires Nigel Cowley and John Holder were hopeful of starting in the afternoon.

But after putting back the start time half an hour they were then forced to abandon play for the day at 1615 BST.

The match is almost certain to be drawn with Lancashire 17 runs behind Somerset at 221-9 in the first innings.
