COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE Canterbury, day one of four (close): Kent 162 v Nottinghamshire 121-3
Pattinson got his county career off to a dream start |
Darren Pattinson made a fantastic start to his Nottinghamshire career as Kent were shot out for 162 on day one. Pattinson took 5-22, including three wickets for one in a 13-ball spell, while Charlie Shreck returned 4-65. Only skipper Rob Key (79) put up much resistance, helping boost the total from 114-8 before he was ninth out. Yasir Arafat struck twice early on as Notts slipped to 55-3 but Mark Wagh's unbeaten 52 and 23 from Samit Patel took the score to a more healthy 121-3. Kent's first four wickets went down for just 13 runs on a pitch which helped the seamers. And Pattinson, who was born in Grimsby but raised in Melbourne where he worked as a roof-tiler, took advantage of early-season nerves. Only Key showed the patience required, adding 41 with Geraint Jones and 45 with debutant Azhar Mahmood. After Nottinghamshire's wobble, Wagh played fluently for his half-century, which came from 97 balls.
