Five-star Murali torments Sussex
County Championship D1, Hove: Sussex 235 v Lancashire 330 & 70-3 (day three, stumps)

Muttiah Muralitharan's 19th five-wicket haul in only his 22nd Lancashire match put his side in charge against Sussex.

He took 5-73 as champions Sussex were bowled out for 235, giving Lancashire a first-innings advantage of 95.

Sussex failed to capitalise after Chris Nash (47) and Richard Montgomerie (28) compiled their first half-century opening stand of the season.

Lancashire then stumbled their way to 70-3, Mark Chilton retiring hurt after being hit by Jason Lewry's short ball.

Michael Yardy (42) and Chris Adams (40) were the other main contributors for Sussex, with no-one going on to make a big score.

Umpire Barrie Leadbeater left the field in the fifth over of the day after being informed of a family bereavement.

Sussex coach Mark Robinson stood at square-leg only, with Neil Bainton umpiring at both ends until replacement official Martin Bodenham arrived after lunch.
