County Championship D1, Headingley, day four: Yorkshire 677-7 dec drew with Durham 518 & 181-3
Yorkshire 11 pts, Durham 10Yorkshire and Durham breathed a collective sigh of relief as a draw at Headingley kept both in Division One of the Championship for next season.
The visitors had a few anxious moments when they lost both openers cheaply after following on.
But Garry Park struck 11 fours to calm their nerves as he and Ben Harmison (33) shared an unbroken stand of 98.
Durham declared on 181-3 as soon as Park reached a maiden century and there was no further action.
The result condemned last season's champions Notts to the Second Division next season, but it could not have been any closer with Yorkshire on 154, Durham on 153.5 and Notts on 153.
The start of the final day's play was delayed by the weather but once under way Durham's overnight pair, Dale Benkenstein and Ottis Gibson, extended their seventh wicket partnership to 315.
They were eventually separated when Mark Lawson had Benkenstein caught behind for 151 and Gibson followed four runs later for 155 when he was bowled by Adil Rashid.
It was the highest Durham stand for any wicket, smashing the 258 between Martin Love and John
Lewis against Nottinghamshire at the Riverside in 2001.
Leg-spinner Rashid then cleaned up the tail to finish with 144-4 and Durham found themselves in the unsuual position of following on despite a total of 518 as Yorkshire made 677-7 declared earlier in the game.
They then lost Jimmy Maher and Gary Scott with only 16 on the board, both lbw to pace bowler Deon Kruis.
But Rashid's dismissal of Benkenstein for 26 was Yorkshire's only other breakthrough as Park and Harmison underlined their potential by playing out time.
