Anderson took 2-31 in seven overs for Lancashire on Sunday |
England fast bowler James Anderson is unlikely to turn out for Lancashire in their County Championship decider at Hampshire starting on Wednesday. Anderson will travel as part of the squad, but can only bowl 12 overs a day maximum - and Lancashire, vying with Sussex for the title, would want more.
Captain Mark Chilton said: "We've not made a decision yet on whether he'll play, but there's no need to risk it."
Anderson, returning from a six-month injury lay-off, took 2-31 on Sunday.
Named in England's Champions Trophy and Ashes squads, he was playing for Lancashire in a Pro40 match at Old Trafford against Glamorgan.
Chilton said: "Jimmy looked really good against Glamorgan.
"He has worked exceptionally hard and he's been bowling with the team at
practice for a while now.
"He's done so well to get back to where he is because he's had a really hard
time with his injury.

"It's great to have him back out there on the pitch with us - he deserves it
for all the hard work he's done."
Lancashire trail leaders Sussex, by eight points, knowing nothing but victory will suffice if they are to have any chance of claiming a first outright championship title since 1934.
Chilton would need to ask a new-ball bowler like Anderson to give him more than 12 overs in a day.
He said: "For your strike bowler, [12 overs] is not that many, so we'll need to decide
whether it's worth playing him.
"We know we've got the guys that can perform. Corky [Dominic Cork] and Chappy [Glen Chapple] have only got little niggles, and then there are the likes of Tom Smith, Kyle Hogg, who have
done so well for us all season.
"The good thing is we have options - there won't be any need to risk
Jimmy."
After bowling against Glamorgan, Anderson said: "I've been waiting for this moment for a long time and it is good to be back.
"The back is fine at the moment. It might be a little stiff in the morning but only because I have not bowled at that pace for a while."
Sussex's final match is against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge. Anderson's proposed loan move to Glamorgan to give him a full match before the end of the season is no longer on.
