Foxes build Grace Road advantage
County Championship, Division Two, Grace Road (stumps, day three): Leicestershire 170 & 284-5 v Somerset 192

Leicestershire built a lead of 262 after reaching 284-5 at the end of day three against Somerset at Grace Road.

Somerset quickly lost their last five wickets for 79 but were able to take a slender first-innings advantage of 22.

Nick Walker finished with a career-best 5-59, ousting top-scorer Matthew Wood (73) at second slip in the third over.

HD Ackerman posted his 16th fifty of the campaign to guide Leics from 55-2, sharing 104 with Jon Sadler, and Darren Maddy added a rapid unbeaten 60.

After Somerset had quickly subsided, Andy Caddick gave them some heart when he dismissed John Maunders in the second over with a lifting delivery that brushed the gloves.

Darren Robinson shared 46 with Ackerman before gloving another rising delivery from the evergreen Caddick, who extracted impressive life from the surface.

Ackerman looked set to record his fourth century of the season before he edged Caddick's first ball after tea to the keeper and departed for 82.

It took his Championship run aggregate for 2006 to 1,618, the best tally by a Foxes batsman since Nigel Briers amassed 1,846 in 1990.
