Sussex ahead in low-scoring clash
County Championship D1, Rose Bowl, day two (stumps): Sussex 211 & 149-5 v Hampshire 168

Sussex moved 192 ahead at 149-5 in their second innings as wickets continued to tumble at The Rose Bowl.

Pakistan Test bowler Rana Naved caused all manner of problems for the Hampshire batsmen, and captured 5-63 as the home side were bowled out for 168.

Richard Montgomerie shared a fifty stand with Michael Yardy, only the second of the match, in Sussex's reply.

Chris Adams was joined by Robin Martin-Jenkins to add a useful unbroken 30 in the low-scoring contest.

Having seen 11 wickets fall on the opening day, pitch inspector Peter Walker was present again to watch another 14 on day two.

It was eight overs before Hampshire's overnight pair James Adams and John Crawley were able to add to the total.

Sussex struggled immediately too when it was their turn to bat again, with Carl Hopkinson edging Chris Tremlett to slip.

Montgomerie's 35 took 42 overs and Murray Goodwin failed again before Adams found his touch with seven fours in an unbeaten 31, striking Shaun Udal on the knee with a fierce drive that led to the veteran spinner leaving the field.
