County Championship D1, Rose Bowl, day one (stumps): Hampshire 34-1 v Sussex 211 Ervine continued his good form with three wickets |
Sussex's quest for their first Championship win over Hampshire for five years took a blow as they were bowled out for 212 at the Rose Bowl. Sean Ervine and new Aussie signing Dominic Thornely took three wickets each to bowl out the visitors, who won the toss on a pitch of variable bounce.
Chris Adams came to the crease at 40-3 and took three hours over his 64.
Rana Naved-ul-Hasan had Michael Brown caught behind with his first ball of the year but Hants were 34-1 at stumps.
Thornely had previously taken only 10 wickets in first-class matches for New South Wales and, last season, for Surrey.
Wicket-keeper Pothas took four catches behind the wicket and there were four catches in the slips with the ball seaming all day.
