County Championship Division Two, New Road (stumps, day two): Worcestershire 304 v Surrey 496-4
Mark Ramprakash's phenomenal season continued as he passed 2,000 runs in first-class cricket to help Surrey take control on day two at Worcestershire.
The former England batsman struck 27 fours in his 196 and put on big stands with three team-mates at New Road.
Scott Newman made 64, Jon Batty 104 and Ali Brown a typically blistering 110.
But Ramprakash was the talking point again, falling on the stroke of stumps after guiding his side into a strong position on 496-4 - a lead of 192.
Ramprakash needed 152 runs to become the first man to the milestone this season and there was never a doubt after Surrey resumed on 42-0.
He punished a tiring attack to reach 50 off 75 balls, adding 157 in 43 overs with Batty, whose dismissal was quickly followed by skipper Mark Butcher for a duck.
That failed to unsettle Ramprakash, who reached his eighth Championship ton of the campaign and an unprecedented fifth 150 in as many Championship matches.
No English player has passed the 2,000-run mark since the split into two divisions six years ago, although Aussie Mike Hussey achieved the feat in 2001.
It was a shock when he mis-timed a sweep off Gareth Batty to be out off the last ball of the day.
