Knight sets new Warwickshire mark
County Championship D1, Edgbaston (day two, stumps): Warwickshire 208 & 197-3 v Gloucestershire 118

Nick Knight reached 10,000 Championship runs for Warwickshire quicker than any other batsman on a slow-moving day against Gloucestershire.

Thanks to Knight, who was unbeaten on 77, and Ian Westwood (55), Warwickshire closed on 197-3, a lead of 287 over the under-powered visitors on a slow pitch.

Gloucestershire had batted 56 overs for their first innings 118, debutant Grant Hodnett batting 52 overs for 49.

Steve Adshead was Dougie Brown's 50th first-class wicket of the season.

Hodnett, a tall South Africa-born right hander, was called up after a successful summer in the 2nd XI and with Cheltenham in club cricket.

Knight achieved his landmark in 223 innings, four fewer than former West Indies batsman Rohan Kanhai.
